April was Ambitious

Since I was a little girl, I have always been ambitious and have taken on many challenges or “opportunities” at once.  For some reason having only one task at a time seems too easy, like I am not challenging myself.  Give me one thing and I’ll ask for another, and another, oftentimes juggling at least  three things and usually more.

The past month of April was no different.  It started out slow since the first week was spring break, but even then I wasn’t on break, rather I took the first three required courses to receive a certificate in event management.  The next two weeks I spent a countless number of hours glued to my computer writing teacher narratives and anecdotal notes for my students’ testing materials.  Those were finally finished and submitted the third week of the month.

And somewhere in between all of that, I have been…

Planning my wedding, applying to jobs, trying to maintain my social life, training a puppy, making meals, committing to assist in the planning of multiple social events, and releasing any leftover energy into sweat sessions at the gym…

In my mind, busy = good and April was definitely busy!

I can’t say that I hope May will be as busy, but I am fairly certain it will be…

I am  headed out-of-town this weekend with a group of girlfriends for my bachelorette party [wahooo], I hopefully will make a decision soon about jobs, I will be attending multiple IEP meetings at school, I will be celebrating birthdays and special events with my friends, I will continue to be in the kitchen cooking and at the gym working out, and last but certainly not least, I will continue to plan my wedding…

P.S.  Sunday Successes will be back this weekend.  In summary…

I have been listening to my body and avoiding gluten, although it has been extremely hard and I have indulged in a fluffy piece of wheat bread on occasion [but have immediately regretted it]…

I have NOT been saving money and have bought a few too many items of clothing, but I have justified each purchase saying that I need them for job interviews [funny how the mind works]…

Ryan and I have continued to train Charlie.  He’s mastered sit and lay down, we’re still working on crawl and shake, and when we say “stay” he looks at us like we’re speaking a foreign language…

Event Planning & Successes Sunday: Week 13 & 14

Last week I had a 2-hour round-trip commute into the city.  During the day I sat in class for 7 hours and at night I went home and worked on projects.  To some that may sound less than exciting but for me it was exactly the opposite- I was learning about something that I have recently discovered I have a strong passion for…  Event planning.

I have always been a planner and slightly OCD organized [my family and friends have accepted it thankfully ;)]…  Throughout my school years I have held various PR positions that have required me to coordinate and execute events.  In my personal life I planned my engagement party last summer and currently I am planning my wedding.

Sometimes things don’t always work out as planned and the world has a funny way of working but you just gotta go with it…  Regardless, remember to follow your dreams.

Successes Sunday

1.  Listen to my body.  Although the past two weeks have been extremely busy, and at times somewhat stressful, I felt that I truly listened to my body and fed it what it needed in terms of food and fitness.

Food: I stuck to a primarily gluten-free and vegetarian diet which included lots of avocado, beans, low-fat dairy, and nuts.

Fitness: I went to a pilates mat class on Tuesday and BodyPump on Saturday in addition to my typical gym routine.

2.  Save money.  Most of my monies the past two weeks have gone towards groceries, aka essentials.

Nonessentials: Meeting a girlfriend for a manicure date and buying a computer charger because I left mine at school last week [but guess what, it was still there this morning].

3.  Train Charlie.  After a long day one of the best things to come home to is a puppy who will always love you unconditionally.

Training:  Every night Ryan helps Charlie practice his tricks.  He’s mastered sit, lay down, and speak and is working on crawl and shake.  It’s amazing what a puppy will do for a little piece of deli meat 😛

Daily Memorable Moments

April 7:  Waking up for a Saturday morning sweat session- BodyPump kicked my butt, literally!

April 8:  Ryan and I had the opportunity to spend time with both of our families.  We met his family for lunch and my family for dinner…  Yay for two tasty gatherings!

April 9:  Tomorrow I have a presentation, progress reports, and lesson plans due- I feel somewhat like a college student again with the thought of having to pull an all-nighter…

Successes Sunday: Week 12

Successes Sunday

1.  Listen to my body.

-It was another busy week between school, squeezing in workouts, and attending wedding consultations…  It was busy but it all got done and most of it was fun!

-I have been trading calls back and forth with the GI office.  I’m hoping to schedule the second colonoscopy for sometime in early April.

-On Friday I was sick at home…  I woke up at 5AM with a small cramp but didn’t think much of it and went about my normal morning routine [shower, pack lunches, eat breakfast, take care of some odds and ends].  In the car on the way to school, the cramp intensified to a stabbing pain and I knew that I wouldn’t make it through a full day of school.  As soon as I got to school, I filled out a sub request and thankfully it was filled.

2.  Save money.

-Total grocery savings for the week: $42.96 [and bet it would be more if TJ’s collected coupons/ had sales]!

-Limiting myself to 2 Sbucks a week has become easy!  During the week I’ll enjoy a cup of coffee with breakfast at home and pack a tumbler [or two] to bring with me to work.  The biggest thing that I miss about my Sbucks cappuccino is the frothy milk…

-On Saturday I bought a new pair of Nike running sneakers!  I could not be more excited!  Not only are they pretty good-looking [in my opinion],  but they were only $52 [originally $75, on sale for $65, and I had a 20% off coupon]- it felt like a steal 😀  Since I’m not training for any upcoming races I didn’t want to spend $100+ on a pair of sneakers that would be primarily used on the elliptical or push the pedals on the spin bike.

-On Sunday I got a haircut!  I have put it off for a while now because spending $100 on a wash, a few snips, and a blow-dry seems a little ridiculous to me…  But after going to the same guy for years, I’ve had a hard time convincing myself that it’s okay to try someone new.  Sound silly?!  But after talking with a couple of my girlfriends, I made an appointment at a new salon and I’m happy that I did!  I didn’t change much because the wedding is in a few months and think that there are more fun styles to choose from if it’s longer, but I can definitely tell that my ends feel much healthier.

3.  Train Charlie.

-Since watching the puppy training show last weekend and learning that one of the best ways to train a puppy is to give them a highly stimulating reward, Ryan and I have been giving Charlie “pupperonies” [aka turkey pepperoni slices]!  And let me tell you, it works!  We use 1 “pupperoni” and tear it into tiny pieces to get about 5 tricks out of the little guy…  He definitely has mastered sit, so we’re focusing on lay down, speak, crawl 🙂

Daily Memorable Moment March 25:  It was a good day at the mall [without even buying anything!]…  Ryan and I met one of my girlfriends to see The Hunger Games, I got a haircut, and on our way out we bumped into another girlfriend who was jewelry shopping so I couldn’t resist joining and offering her some advice!
